Your Car Won't Start and You're Stuck in Fort Worth

It happened to a customer of ours on a Tuesday morning in Fort Worth. She turned the key, heard a single click, and that was it. Nothing. Her first thought was the battery, which is what most people assume. But when we got there and tested everything, the battery was fine. The starter was the problem.

That click is actually one of the most telling signs. A single loud click usually points to the starter solenoid not engaging the motor. Repeated rapid clicking can also mean the starter is drawing power but not turning over. Sometimes you get nothing at all, just silence when you turn the key. These are all different from a dead battery, and knowing the difference can save you from replacing the wrong part.

The photo above shows exactly what we pulled off her car alongside the new unit going in. The old starter is worn, the contacts are burnt, and you can see the solenoid assembly that sits alongside it. That solenoid is what tells the starter to engage when you turn the key. When either piece fails, the whole system stops working. A lot of shops will replace just one component and send you on your way, but we typically replace the full assembly so you're not back in the same situation six months later.

Starters don't usually fail overnight. They tend to get sluggish first. The engine cranks slower than it used to, especially on cold mornings. Sometimes it starts fine for weeks and then one day it just doesn't. If you've been noticing that your car takes a little longer to turn over than it used to, that's worth paying attention to.

As a Fort Worth mobile mechanic , we handle starter replacements right where the car is sitting. No tow truck, no waiting at a shop. We come to your driveway, your parking lot, wherever you are. Our team has been doing this across the DFW area since 2012, and starter replacements are one of the more common calls we get, especially during summer when the heat accelerates wear on electrical components.

If your car won't start and you're not sure what's going on, give us a call at (817) 966-0057. We're available 24 hours and can usually get to you the same day. We'll figure out what's actually wrong before we replace anything.
